P&P
About

One place for everyone who moves the world.

People and Position profiles the world's most notable people, about 100,000 of them, and ranks them by how much the world reads about them.

What you'll find

A profile for everyone with an article in at least nineteen Wikipedia language editions: actors, athletes, heads of state, scientists, writers, saints and more. Each profile has a portrait, the key facts, a career timeline, family connections, honours and a few things you probably didn’t know.

Everyone is ranked by the Position Index, a score from 0 to 100 that combines how many people read about them now with how widely across the world they are known. You can browse the whole Index, explore by field, or put anyone against anyone on the Podium.

Where it comes from

Only open sources, always credited. Facts come from Wikidata (public domain). Popularity comes from Wikipedia’s public pageview statistics. Portraits come from Wikimedia Commons, and every one carries its photographer and licence. We never copy photos from news or agency sites, and we never publish net worth unless a sourced estimate exists.

The Journal covers people from the Index who are in the news. Its articles are written with AI from the sources listed under each one and checked against them automatically; stories about deaths, crime, allegations or health are reviewed by a person before they appear.

Corrections

Most of our facts come from Wikidata, so a fix there reaches us within a week. If something is wrong, out of date or shouldn’t be here, tell us and we’ll look at it.
