We collect very little.
No accounts, no sign-ups, no advertising trackers. Here is everything that happens when you visit.
What we store on your device
Your choice of light or dark theme, and your analytics choice if we asked for one, kept in your browser’s local storage. They never leave your device.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people find useful: pages viewed, how you arrived, your rough location (country and city) and your device type. It sets first-party cookies. We don’t use it for advertising, we don’t share it with advertisers, and Google’s advertising features are switched off.
In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, analytics cookies are only set if you allow them; until then Google receives cookieless signals only. Elsewhere, analytics is on by default. You can change your choice at any time under Cookie settings at the bottom of every page. Google’s privacy policy covers its part.
What our host sees
The site runs on Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes your IP address and basic request details to deliver pages and to protect the site from attacks. We don’t receive those logs as a list of visitors, and we don’t use them to identify anyone. Cloudflare’s own privacy policy covers its part.
Search
What you type into search is sent to our server to find matching people. We don’t store it against you.
If you write to us, we keep your message and address only to answer you and to act on a correction or request.
People in the Index
Profiles are built from public, open sources about notable people: Wikidata, Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons. For living people we don’t name private family members who have no public profile of their own. To ask for a change or removal, see Contact.
Changes
If we add advertising, this page will say so first, and you will be asked for consent where the law requires it.
