Omar Abdullah faces internal revolt as NC MLAs challenge his leadership

According to The Times of India, many National Conference MLAs are upset over a recent cabinet rejig. Deccan Herald reports that nearly half of the party’s legislators have challenged his leadership. NDTV notes that 24 MLAs have raised a banner of revolt against him.

Who is Omar Abdullah

Omar Abdullah, born on 10 March 1970 in Rochford, is an Indian politician. He is the chief minister of the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir since 2024 and serves as leader of the house in the legislative assembly. He previously held the post of eighth chief minister of the state from 2009 to 2014. He has been vice president of the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference since 2009, a position he also held as president. He represented Srinagar in the Lok Sabha from 1998 to 2009 and was a union minister of state for external affairs. His parliamentary record includes membership of the 12th and 13th Lok Sabha. He served as a member of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly from 2009 to 2018 and again from 2024. His education includes the University of Strathclyde, the University of Mumbai and The Lawrence School, Sanawar.
